Enjoy the views

San Sebastián is uniquely framed by three iconic mountains, Monte Urgull, Monte Igueldo, and Monte Ulia, each offering distinct experiences that showcase the city’s natural beauty, history, and panoramic views.

Monte Urgull, rising directly above the Old Town, is a lush, green hill steeped in history. Walking its trails feels like stepping back in time, with centuries-old fortress walls, the Castillo de la Mota, and statues like the towering Sacred Heart statue overlooking the bay. From its summit, you get breathtaking views of La Concha Bay and the city’s rooftops, making it a perfect spot for both nature lovers and history buffs.

On the western edge of the bay is Monte Igueldo, famous for its vintage funicular railway that carries visitors to the top. Here you’ll find a nostalgic amusement park and some of the best panoramic views of the city and coastline—ideal for photography or a relaxing day out. The hill’s peaceful atmosphere and green spaces also make it a favorite for families and couples.

Lastly, Monte Ulia lies to the east, offering a quieter and less touristy escape. Its coastal hiking trails connect San Sebastián with neighboring villages, winding along cliffs and beaches with stunning ocean views. It’s a fantastic spot for walkers, runners, and anyone wanting to experience the natural Basque landscape away from the crowds.
